How to Erase Your Device

Follow these instructions to safely erase your device before shipping

Backup Your Data

Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now

Turn Off Find My iPhone

Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Find My > Find My iPhone > Toggle Off

Sign Out of iCloud

Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Scroll down and tap Sign Out

Sign Out of iTunes & App Store

Go to Settings > [Your Name] > Media & Purchases > Sign Out

Erase All Content and Settings

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings

Remove SIM Card

Use the SIM ejector tool to remove your SIM card from the device

Go to Settings > Google > Backup > Back up now

Remove Google Account

Go to Settings > Passwords & accounts > Select account > Remove account

Turn Off Find My Device

Go to Settings > Security > Find My Device > Toggle Off

Factory Reset

Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset)

Remove SIM Card

Use the SIM ejector tool to remove your SIM card

Go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Backup data > Back up now

Remove Samsung Account

Go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Accounts > Samsung account > Remove account

Remove Google Account

Go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Accounts > Google > Remove account

Turn Off Find My Mobile

Go to Settings > Biometrics and security > Find My Mobile > Toggle Off

Factory Reset

Go to Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset > Reset

Remove SIM & SD Card

Use the ejector tool to remove your SIM and SD cards

Apple Watch

Unpair from iPhone

Open Watch app on iPhone > My Watch > [Your Watch] > Unpair Apple Watch

Erase Apple Watch

On Watch: Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings

Turn Off Activation Lock

This happens automatically when you unpair from iPhone

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content and Settings

Remove SIM Card (if applicable)

Use the SIM ejector tool to remove your SIM card from cellular models

Go to System Preferences > Apple ID > Overview > Sign Out

Sign Out of iTunes

Open iTunes > Account > Authorizations > Deauthorize This Computer

Sign Out of iMessage

Open Messages > Preferences > iMessage > Sign Out

Erase Mac (M1/M2)

System Preferences > System Settings > Erase All Content and Settings

Erase Mac (Intel)

Restart > Hold Cmd+R > Disk Utility > Erase Macintosh HD > Reinstall macOS

Important Reminders

  • Backup all important data before erasing your device
  • Make sure your device is charged above 50%
  • Remove all SIM cards, SD cards, and accessories
  • Factory reset will delete all data permanently
  • Keep your device connected to Wi-Fi during the process
